This year, for the National Day holiday on September 2, government officials and public employees will have four consecutive days off, while other workers will have two days off according to the employer’s holiday arrangement.

Four consecutive days off for public employees
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, officials and public employees will be off from Saturday, August 30, until the end of Tuesday, September 2 (a total of four consecutive days). This break includes two National Day holidays and two regular weekly days off. For agencies and units that do not have fixed Saturdays and Sundays off, the holiday schedule will be arranged according to each unit’s specific plans and in compliance with legal regulations.

Two days off for other workers
For employees who are not officials or public employees, and those working in administrative agencies, public service units, political organizations, or socio-political organizations, the employer will decide the National Day holiday arrangement. Accordingly, workers will have Tuesday, September 2, off, plus either Monday, September 1, or Wednesday, September 3. Employers must notify employees of the National Day holiday plan at least 30 days in advance. The labor authorities also encourage employers to apply the same holiday schedule for employees as for officials and public employees.

Overtime pay for working on National Day (September 2)
According to the 2019 Labor Code, on public holidays, employees are entitled to take the day off with full pay. If they work on public holidays, they will receive additional overtime pay. Specifically, under Article 98 of the 2019 Labor Code, employees working on public holidays will be paid at least 300% of their regular wage, excluding their normal holiday pay.

In addition, employees working overtime at night will be entitled to higher rates as prescribed. If working overtime at night on a public holiday, employees will receive at least 490% of their wage (including 100% of regular daily wage + 300% public holiday pay + 30% night shift pay + 60% overtime night shift pay). If working during the daytime on a public holiday, employees will receive at least 400% of their wage (including 100% regular daily wage + 300% public holiday pay).
